Question: I have been diagnosed with PSOC, and therefore I have been having my periods for 4 months strait now. I have been bleeding every day for 4 months straight now. I am in huge pain every day, but more because I cannot pray. What should I do? I haven’t prayed for 4 months now. Can I pray? I feel like I am being punished. Please help me. In Sha Allah

ANSWER :

Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim !

The blood that you see daily for four months is not all menstruation, in which prayers are not offered, but a part of it is menstruation and most of it is istihazah (i.e. blood of disease) in which prayers are offered. And the way to distinguish between the two is that before this situation happened, the number of days you experienced menstruation equal to that shall be menstruation, and after the menstruation the days of purity for fifteen days or more equal to that shall be deemed istihazah. Therefore, every month you should differentiate between the two accordingly and offer prayers during istihazah. Further details of the rules of menstruation and istihazah can be found in Bahishti Zewar.Salah ruling for Mustahazah
